Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box. To use Registry Editor to delete the corrupted Registry entries, follow these steps: In any case I would recommend opening the Device Manager, I guess the easiest way to do that is in the right click on the start button menu these days, and see if anything in there is unfolded with a '!' next to it, which will usually stand out like a sore thumb if something is malfunctioning. This problem may be caused by two Windows registry entries that have become corrupted. Although, if you have a mic built in, that may or may not be USB, a lot of laptops have cameras though, that could be it too is your camera working if you have one? A keyboard or trackpad could do it too I suppose, but I'm not sure how many of those would be wiring into USB in a laptop these days I'm totally clueless on that and if they appear to be working it's probably unlikely that it's those. Ethernet's usually hardwired, I imagine any disc drive you may or may not (probably not) have is probably still SATA or something. Things like an SD card reader could be a likely culprit. It's not something people talk about much but there are some devices that can directly connect to the USB bus inside of the case which function like USB but wouldn't appear like it outside. It's also possible it's an internal USB port.

In the end, it was some nasty driver that got corrupted or something and then they proceed to reinstall Windows on my machine, while making a convenient backup of my stuff but I got a bit sad because I need to reinstall everything again. I had a USB problem once on my desktop, but it was a different problem: one specific USB port (one of the front ports) wasn't reading anything connected to it, so I had to pay a cab to take me and my heavy PC tower to a repair shop at downtown and I left my PC there for them to check wtf was going on. My suggestion is to take your notebook to a repair shop for them to take a look. I'll give you a shot in the dark here: one of the USBs are defected, I mean, maybe something (maybe dirt or some nasty dust) entered inside one of the USB ports' contacts and the USB is like "oh is something connected into me? I can't tell" and Windows go to you and be like "yo bro there's something in your USB but I don't know what it is, help me out man" and you can do nothing because there's literally nothing in any of the ports. Well, I'm a desktop guy, but I'm also fond of notebooks )
